2025: Year in Review for Novy

Celebrating a year of creation and growth

As we look back on 2025, one word comes to mind: momentum.

This year marked a defining chapter for Novy. One where ideas were validated (and invalidated), our top healthcare software idea moved into Creation, and a vision we have been nurturing since the inception of our studio began taking real, tangible shape.

None of it happened overnight, and none of it happened alone.

Here is a look back at what made 2025 such a pivotal year for our team, with a sincere nod of appreciation to the idea generators, subject matter experts (SMEs), industry partners, and local communities who made it all possible.

So without further ado, let’s dive into what year two of Novy looked like...

From Idea to Action: A Year of Intentional Progress

It’s safe to say that 2025 was defined by disciplined execution and clear phases of growth.

We successfully moved from Ideation in Q1 to Validation in Q2, then into Creation in Q3 and Q4. Each phase built thoughtfully on the last. This very intentional progression allowed us to test hypotheses, listen closely to industry-informed feedback, and begin designing an impactful solution with the utmost conviction and clarity.

As we look ahead, we are excited to share that we plan to enter the Growth phase for the very first time in the new year, carrying this forward momentum into 2026.

Building Our First Portfolio Company

One of the most defining milestones of 2025 was stepping into Creation on Novy’s very first portfolio company, a foundational moment that marked the transition from exploration to execution. It really brought our venture studio model to life.

This step followed months of thorough validation with SMEs, healthcare executives, hospital administrators, and frontline providers. Those conversations sharpened our understanding of a deeply felt challenge in emergency medicine (EM) and gave us the confidence to pursue a solution grounded in industry-informed needs rather than assumptions.

Entering Creation also meant opening the door to deeper collaboration within our networks. As we began development of this solution, we expanded opportunities for EM providers and operators to actively shape the product, reinforcing Novy’s belief that the strongest companies are built with the people they serve.

At the same time, we continued to grow Novy’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) Network, a trusted group of industry leaders who collaborate with us throughout the startup creation process. Their insight challenges assumptions, informs product decisions, and keeps our work closely aligned with the realities of healthcare delivery.

We view this network as an evolving community and are always open to welcoming new SMEs interested in contributing their experience and perspective. Those interested can learn more or apply at any time.

As part of this transition, our very own Krista Martin was appointed CEO of this first venture to guide it through its earliest build phase and beyond, ensuring tight alignment between vision, execution, and the insights uncovered during Validation. Her leadership reflects Novy’s hands-on approach and our deep commitment to creating enduring healthcare companies.

Moving into Creation laid the foundation for what comes next. With a product actively being built, a select group of early partners engaged in a pilot program, and a strong foundation firmly in place for what’s ahead, we are entering the new year ready to shift from launch mode to scaling.

If you are part of an Emergency Medicine Group in search of a smarter, hybrid solution to shift scheduling, Krista would love to give you a walk-through. Feel free to drop her a line at krista@novyventures.com to schedule a demo.

Ideation Round Three: Continuing the Cycle

While we move into Growth with this first portfolio company, we are already preparing for what comes next in Novy’s recurring cycle. Our six-stage process spanning Ideation, Validation, Creation, Growth, Spinout, and Exit will repeat over and over.

As we mentioned before, our vision is to create one to three new healthcare software companies per year. At the moment, we’re focused on one every 12 months, but that will likely accelerate in the future as our platform, network, and portfolio expands.

For Q1 2026, Novy plans to begin our third round of Ideation, running in parallel with the work we’re doing on this portfolio company. This overlapping cadence very much reflects how we operate as a venture studio, building and scaling companies while simultaneously exploring the next big burning problem to solve.

With that in mind, we are actively welcoming conversations with Idea Generators and CXO candidates who are interested in having a hand in shaping what we tackle next. If you are exploring a hair on fire problem in need of solving, curious about stepping into a fast-paced leadership role with a new company, or simply want to learn more about Novy’s unique process to startup creation, now is a perfect time to connect.

Sharing What We’re Learning Along the Way

Throughout the year, Novy’s Partners were active contributors to conversations within the entrepreneurial and venture ecosystems, both here in Iowa and across the country.

From hosting a session at EntreFEST to leading a workshop at the Angel Investor Summit, our team shared lessons learned from taking ideas to execution thoughtfully, yet rapidly.

We engaged in meaningful dialogue through the Global Venture Network, collaborating with peers around venture creation, studio operations, and long-term value creation, including in person at their NYC summit.

Along the way, our leaders joined several podcasts and virtual events too, offering a behind-the-scenes look at Novy’s approach, the realities of early-stage execution, and what it takes to turn promising ideas into enduring businesses.

Recognition That Reflects the Team Behind the Work

We remain proud to have our work recognized, especially when those honors reflect the people and culture behind it.

In November, Krista was honored as a finalist for Emerging Technology Leader of the Year at the TAI’s Prometheus Awards. Novy was also named one of CBJ’s Coolest Places to Work and recognized as a HackerNoon Startup of the Year, both for the second time in a row.

This year also brought many opportunities for the rest of the team to support their local communities. Jess served as Chair of the Technology Association of Iowa’s Startup Roundtables, helping foster connection and shared expertise across innovators in the state.

Looking Ahead: Gratitude, Growth, and What’s Next

As we close out 2025, we are actively in fundraising mode, laying the groundwork to fuel our next phase of impact. If you would like to learn more about becoming a potential investor, please reach out to David Tominsky at david@novyventures.com.

We are deeply grateful to our partners, investors, and the broader community who have supported Novy along the way. Your belief, feedback, and support truly made this year what it was. 2025 proved what is possible when vision meets execution.

As we head into 2026, we are more energized than ever about what lies ahead and extremely proud to be building from right here in Iowa with our sights set on having a real nationwide effect.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We are just getting started.
